A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO CHINA PEACEKEEPING CIVPOL TRAINING CENTER
China Peacekeeping Civpol Training Center (CPCTC), which was established in August 2000, is located in Langfang City, Hebei Province, 50 km from Beijing. It is under the command of the Ministry of Public Security and Beijing supported administratively and logistically by the Chinese People’s Armed Police Academy. The training center is composed of an Administrative office, Peacekeeping Training and Research Section, Peacekeeping FPU Training and Research Section, and Trainee Management Section, with 24 trainers and staff members altogether.
The newly constructed Training Center was put into use in October 2004. It occupies an area of 14 hectares, with floorage of 17,000 square meters, and the total investment was 150 million RMB. The training center includes an office and classroom building, dormitory buildings for Chinese and foreign trainees respectively, a cafeteria and recreation center, a shooting range, an indoor swimming pool, and a training ground for driving. Among the training facilities, there are 20 specially designed classrooms, a lecture hall, a multi-functional hall, and a gymnasium. The Training Center is a comprehensive training base with integrated functions of teaching, training and research.
Normally, the Training Center takes the responsibility of the selection and training of peacekeeping Civpol and Formed Police Unit (FPU). To date, the training center has held 21 training courses for 805 Peacekeeping police officers and FPU members.
In the past five years, the Training Center has received delegations from more than ten countries and organizations including DPKO of UN, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Norway. It also had the honor to host Mr. Koffi Annan, the Secretary General of UN, in October 2004. The Training Center has sent delegations and instructors to the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Italy, Thailand, and East Timor for visits, training or seminar.
