广东公安机关的职责：预防、制止和侦查违法犯罪活动；维护社会治安秩序，制止危害社会治安秩序的行为；维护交通安全和交通秩序，处理交通事故；组织、实施消防工作，实行消防监督；管理枪支弹药、管制刀具和易燃易爆、剧毒、放射性等危险物品；对法律、法规规定的特种行业进行管理；警卫国家规定的特定人员，守卫重要的场所和设施；管理户政、国籍、入境出境事务和外国人在省内居留、旅行的有关事务；维护国（边）境地区的治安秩序；对被判处管制、拘役、剥夺政治权利的罪犯和监外执行的罪犯执行刑罚，对被宣告缓刑、假释的罪犯实行监督、考察；监督管理计算机信息系统的安全保护工作；指导和监督国家机关、社会团体、企业事业组织和重点建设工程的治安保卫工作，指导治安保卫委员会等群众性组织的治安防范工作；法律、法规规定的其他职责。
广东省公安厅是省政府主管全省公安工作的职能部门，受省政府、公安部双重领导。各市、县（区）设有公安局（分局），在镇、乡、街道设派出所。公安局（分局）和派出所，分别接受同级人民政府和上级公安机关领导。

The Responsibilities of Guangdong public security organs include: the prevention, suppression and investigation of criminal activities; maintenance of social security and order; fight against behaviors jeopardizing social order; monitor and maintain traffic safety and order, handle traffic accidents; organization and control over fire, supervision fire prevention; administration of arms and ammunitions, control over dangerous objects such as cutting tool, inflammable and explosive materials, toxic and radioactive materials; administration of special trades stipulated by laws and regulations; protection of state assigned persons, venues and facilities; administration of household registration, nationality, entry-&exit and stay, travel of foreigners in Guangdong; maintenance of border security; executing penalties on criminals under surveillance, detained, deprived of political rights and serving sentence outside jail; surveillance on probationer and parolee; security inspection of computer information system; supervision and instruction of security work in state organs, societal associations, enterprise and important construction sites; instruction of crime prevention work of community security commissions; and stipulation of regulations and rules.
Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department (GDPSD) is a functional organization under the dual leadership of Provincial Government and the Ministry of Public Security in charge of the whole province’s public security work. Police Stations are dispatched to subordinate towns, village, streets, under the dual leadership of their respective local government and superior public security organs.
Within the GDPSD, there are such departments as General Office, Personnel Management, Education & Training, Supervision, Internal Security Protection, Criminal Investigation, Economic Crime Investigation, Drug Control, Public Order Administration, Exit & Entry Administration, Traffic Control, Border Control, Fire Control, Penitentiary Administration, Security Protection, Public Information Network Security Supervision, Legal System, Info-communications, Logistics and Finance and Publicity assuming respective functions. Guangdong Railway Public Security Bureau, Guangdong Forestry Security Bureau and Guangdong Customs Smuggling Crime Investigation Bureau are categorized into the provincial public security establishments and under dual leadership of their superiors and the GDPSD. Civil Aviation Central-south Administration PSB, Baiyun International Airport PSB and Guangdong Ocean Transportation PBS are mainly under the leadership of their superiors and subject to the professional guidance of the GDPSD.
